You might be more familiar with the term Chiropractic adjustment but Naturopathic Manipulative Technique (NMT) is the same thing. They both influence the body's nervous system and natural defense mechanisms in order to alleviate pain and improve overall general health by adjusting the spine and joints. The spinal column, or backbone, is made up of twenty-four bones called vertebrae that surround and protect the spinal cord. Between each vertebrae, pairs of spinal nerves exit and extend to every part of the body, including muscles, bones, organs and glands. The nervous system itself is comprised of three overlapping systems:
Health relies upon the balance and equilibrium of these three interrelated nerve systems, which can be easily disrupted by spinal injury, malalignment, stress or illness. When vertebrae get out of alignment, pressure is placed on the nerves in that area. As a result, the nerves cannot carry out their proper function and this can lead to dysfunction, disharmony and eventually disease. Dr. Eric R. Hampton at Westhampton Natural Medicine is very skilled at Naturopathic Manipulative Technique (NMT) and complements this work with ultrasound, and acupuncture.. In many cases, we prescribe color therapy, reiki and homeopathy if mental/emotional issues are present that may contribute to the overall disease process. NMT is considered an important adjunct therapy at Westhampton Natural Medicine as we continuously strive to improve our patient's nutritional status, immune function and detoxification pathways in an effort to restore optimal health. |
